The South Florida Water Management District "is a regional governmental agency responsible for water quality, flood control, water supply and environmental restoration in 16 counties, from Orlando to the Florida Keys. It is the oldest and largest of the state's five water management districts. The District manages and protectes water resources on behalf of 7.5 million South Floridians, and is the lead agency in restoring America's Everglades — the largest environmental project in the nation's history."
