Zond 3 was an esxperimental space probe sent toward Mars as a spacecraft test. It had imaging equipment, a magnetometer, a f/106 mm camera, a TV system a high quality UV/IR video camora, ultraviolet (0.25 to 0.35 micrometre and 0.19 to 0.27 micrometre) spectrographs, infrared (3 to 4 micrometre) spectrographs, radiation sensors (gas-discharge and scintillation counters), a radiotelescope, a micrometeoroid instrument and a experimental ion drive engine. It passed and photographed the moon for a few hours on July 20, 1965.
