His father, the poet and author Berchtold Breslaw, was executed for sedition by the communist Romanian regime in 1956. From 1994 to 1996 his was the chief investigator on the team tracking an assassin, by the time the trail led to the US, he was sure his killer was Ingrid Henning. In Seacouver, she appeared to be targeting another political figure, and Breslaw made contact with Henning's old acquaintance, Duncan MacLeod whom he told about the trail of bodies in Henning's wake. Several years later, he appeared again, this time in Paris in response to a series of casino robberies. He told Nick Wolfe that he had a younger brother who was a compulsive gambler. He never seemed to have any luck, his habits cost him his first marriage. When he finally caved to temptation and embezzled company funds to gamble with, he won over two million dollars. Hopeful that his life had at last turned around, he went to cash in, only to have the casino robbed, leaving him with nothing. His theft was discovered, and he shot himself in despair. As a result, Breslaw had a personal stake in stopping the casino thieves.
