An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : 134.155.108.49:8890 associated with source dataset(s)

Douvilleiceratidae comprise evolute, strongly ribbed ammonites from the lower Cretaceous, (Barremian - M Albian), thought to be derived from the Desmoceratidae by way of Paraspitoceras. Early forms from lower in the section tend to be round whorled, later forms from higher up tend to be polygonal or compressed, high whorled. May have umbilical, lateral, or ventrolateral tubercles. Includes 4 subfamilies: Chiloniceratinae, Parahoplitinae, Acanthohoplitinae, and Douvilleiceratinae according to W.J. Arkell, et al 1957.

In more recent classifications the Parahoplitinae and Acanthohoplitinae have been removed to the Deshayesitidae leaving only the Chiloniceratinae and Douvilleiceratinae to which the Roloboceratinae has been added, making for only three subfamilies.
