| - from uu "hard, rough, heavy"
- Utu was a female individual who served as an Admiral in the Navy of the Galactic Empire. During the Campaign at Salient in 18 BBY, Utu was stationed with a battle group at the planet Telos. Moff Wilhuff Tarkin requested Utu to send as many warships she could spare from Telos to the Salient system. A commander later reported to Tarkin that Utu hoped to send two Star Destroyers.
- Because an Utu uses natural medicines as their form of healing, they sometimes have to become creative in order to be helpful. Noranti Pralatong, the only Utu encountered by the crew of Moya, often used roundabout – and sometimes painful – methods in her practice, such as awakening a dormant virus within Rygel in order to cure him of it and giving John Crichton distillate of lakah in order to help him protect Aeryn Sun from Scorpius.
- Utu was the Untheric god of the sun. His manifestation on Toril was killed during the Orcgate Wars. His symbol was a sun disc.
- Utu ("Utu, who sheds a wide light) is the Sumerian for "Sun". The Sumerian cuneiform character is encoded in Unicode at U+12313 𒌓 (Borger nr. 381). Borger's 381 is U4. In Sumerian mythology, Utu is the son of the moon god Nanna and the goddess Ningal. His brother and sisters are Ishkur and Inanna and Erishkigal. (Inanna and Erishkigal were twins) He rises in "the mountains of the east" and sets in the "mountains of the west". Sumerian Utu corresponds to Akkadian Shamash. Marduk is spelled AMAR.UTU in Sumerian, literally, "the calf of Utu" or "the young bull of the Sun".

In Sumerian mythology, Utu is the son of the moon god Nanna and the goddess Ningal. His brother and sisters are Ishkur and Inanna and Erishkigal. (Inanna and Erishkigal were twins) Utu is the god of the sun and of justice, and the implementation of law. He is usually depicted as wearing a horned helmet and carrying a saw-edged weapon not unlike a pruning saw, which it is thought he used to cut through the side of a mountain from which he emerges, symbolising the dawn. He may also carry a mace and stand with one foot on the mountain. He rises in "the mountains of the east" and sets in the "mountains of the west". Sumerian Utu corresponds to Akkadian Shamash. Marduk is spelled AMAR.UTU in Sumerian, literally, "the calf of Utu" or "the young bull of the Sun".
