He played senior hockey for the Regina Victorias, Regina 217th Battalion, and the Regina Depot Battalion from 1915 to 1921. In 1921 he signed as a free agent with the Regina Capitals of the Western Canada Hockey League and played with them through the 1924-25 season. In 1925 Traub moved with them to become the Portland Rosebuds and then in 1926 the team moved to become the Chicago Black Hawks. In the NHL Traub played in 130 games and scored 3 goals and 3 assists.
