In the morning, Talon wakes us early. "Up, up, up you dirtbags! You're not going to go through without getting up early!" I blink open my eyes and don't wake up to Blizzardpaw in front of me. Which means he is dead. Gone. Alarm sparks through me as I notice his blood stained on the wall. Talon must have killed him. Falconpaw is feeling the same alarm, which I can tell because she jumps into me. I also suddenly notice how large she is, her shoulder knocking me away. "Uh, thanks." I let him rub a little longer before I move away. Suddenly I hear screams and I feeze in terror.

Falconpaw is feeling the same alarm, which I can tell because she jumps into me. I also suddenly notice how large she is, her shoulder knocking me away. Sunsetpaw, next to me, turns his head to my fur. "You won't go without me." He presses his face into my fur, which makes the blood rush to my ears. "Uh, thanks." I let him rub a little longer before I move away. Talon is looking rather strange as I watch her. There is an unusually glint in her eye, like she's found her next victim. Suddenly I hear screams and I feeze in terror. "There goes Blizzardpaw," the eagle mutters, her eyes narrowing. "Now, as probably nobody knows, you'll each be doing work for us Birds until you die. Today you will be trying to hook us some big fish. Do it unsuccessfully and there will be punishment." Everyone around me looks scared out of their fur at Talon's threat. I feel quite scared too, and I cannot restrain my legs as they shake like crazy. "Stop shaking!" Talon screeches. Everyone freezes at her cry. "Come on, there's so many things that are worse than this," she calls. "Like cleaning our machines." With that, most everyone looks to be feeling sick. I see Falconpaw shake and vomit next to me, causing me and Thunderpaw, who is on her other side, to flinch. Talon eyes the vomit and then flys into the air. "You're not supposed to be sick." She closes her wings. Falconpaw lets out a loud scream, and the world slows down. I see Talon swoop down, her claws out. I hear a long, blood-curdling scream from Falconpaw, and suddenly Talon's claws sink into the apprentice's back. The world goes back to its normal speed, and I see an brown shape in Talon's grasp. Falconpaw lifts her head slightly and gives me a look that says, Help me, Aspenpaw! I can't help but watch in shock as Talon lifts her claws and leaves Falconpaw's body as she grabs something in her beak that she tosses into a foot. Something is inserted into Falconpaw's body, and then she falls silent.
