- Spellcraft is the magical art of reciting, singing, or chanting specific phrases (sometimes in rhyming words) to bring out a specific outcome.
- Increases casting speed.
- Spellcraft is the most expensive of the Magic skills to place points in but gives the most benefit overall. It is included in all magic calculations and affects your ability to unlock doors, the duration of buffs and debuffs (curses), and the damage of your magical spell attacks.
- Spellcraft was the study and recognition of magical effects and use of the kami. For non-shugenja, the study of spellcraft allowed merely the identification of certain spells based on their effects. For shugenja, however, the study of spellcraft provided a non-magical way of spell identification or examination. This allowed the shugenja to study both spells that were currently being cast in his or her vacinity as well as to study the residual effects of spells cast hours before, in an area or specifically targeting an individual. [citation needed]
- Spellcraft is used to identify spells being cast by other spellcasters. Check: A successful check means that the character has identified a spell being cast by an opponent. The DC of this check is equal to 15 + spell level. The character also gains a +1 bonus for every 5 ranks in this skill to all saving throws against spells.
- The spellcraft skill allows a character to identify spells as they are cast. It also increases the character's saving throws against spells. Modifying ability: Intelligence Classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Favored soul, Sorcerer, Spirit shaman, Warlock, Wizard; Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep, Arcane trickster, Eldritch knight, Pale master, Red dragon disciple, Red Wizard of Thay, Stormlord, Warpriest Requires training: Yes Special: Specialist wizards receive a +2 bonus to Spellcraft on spells of their specialized school of magic, and receive -5 on checks made against spells of their prohibited school.
- Mana symbols here indicate the rarity of a spell, and usually is correlated with its power (for balance purposes). For further balance purposes, mana symbols of equal amounts but different types should still be of mostly equal value. For scaling purposes, more identical mana symbols indicate an exponentially more difficulty of casting.

check
| - The DC of a spellcraft check is equal to 15 plus the level of the spell being cast. The same formula applies to wizards attempting to learn spells from scrolls, a failed spellcraft check means that you fail to learn it properly and the scroll is lost. Learning epic spells also requires certain Spellcraft skill requirements.

Special
| - Specialist wizards receive a +2 bonus to Spellcraft on spells of their specialized school of magic, and receive -5 on checks made against spells of their prohibited school.
A character also receives +1 to saving throws against spells for every 5 unmodified ranks in the skill. This makes the skill very valuable even to non-spellcasting characters.
