She was later infested when Peter's research started to lead him into an exploration of Z-space study and the Yeerks subsequently fail to turn him into a controller. When Marco was forced to reveal the truth to his father and help him escape he lied claiming that Nora had probably been a Controller from the beginning to help his father cope.
