The Shilo Village mining site is one of only two places in where players can find gem rocks, the other place being the mine on Lunar Isle. It is located in the north-west corner of Shilo Village. The gem rocks will give one random gem when mined, either an opal, jade, red topaz, sapphire, emerald, ruby, or diamond. There are no monsters or any other rocks at the mine. More than half of the time, players will get an opal, jade, or red topaz, which are not particularly good for moneymaking. Players may choose to save them and later use them to make jewellery, or they may cut the gems into bolt tips for extra Crafting and Fletching experience while banking only when they have an inventory full of the more valuable gems from sapphire and up.

Players may choose to save them and later use them to make jewellery, or they may cut the gems into bolt tips for extra Crafting and Fletching experience while banking only when they have an inventory full of the more valuable gems from sapphire and up. Players who have completed the Hard Karamja Diary may wear the Karamja gloves 3 to gain access to the underground portion of the gem mine, which has an additional 48 gem rocks. Players can also use the gloves to teleport directly to the underground mines an unlimited number of times. This is very advantageous because players who have not done the Karamja Diary cannot access the mine, leading to less competition for the gems. In August 2016, the underground portion of the mine was updated from having 8 additional rocks to 48, and a Deposit box was added. With this update, the gem mine became a viable way to train Mining while generating some profit. Experience rates at level 70 are about 57k+ an hour with a charged amulet of glory equipped.
