Thorburn, Lieutenant Colonels Robert A. Bailey and John A. Gibson, and Majors B. Frank Eakle and George Jackson. A Union soldier, Private James F. Adams, was awarded the Medal of Honor for capturing the regiment's state flag during an engagement at Nineveh, Virginia, on November 12, 1864.
