Probably just like Hatchigen Ushoda (spelling?) recognized Soifon from the TBTP, but she didn't recognize him. Since Sasakibe was a liuetenant, he's not really well known, so Shinji probably didn't recognize him because of that

Since Sasakibe was a liuetenant, he's not really well known, so Shinji probably didn't recognize him because of that ^^I think I get what you're saying, but a Lieutenant's position is still very high up and reserved for very powerful members of the soul society. I think that they would be well known. Plus, soifon refused to acknowledge Hachigen out of disapproval, not because she didn't recognize him. If I'm incorrect, then it would be still natural for Soifon not to recognize Hachigen since he was the lieutenant of the Kido Corps which rarely interact with the gotei 13.
