- Ask the dwarf if you could become friends ("If you were my friend I wouldn't mind it" ..."And how am I meant to do that?"). The dwarf will say that he wants you to win the fishing contest in the western town of Hemenster, since the reward for the contest is a coveted gold trophy and dwarves aren't known to be good at angling. They'll give you a fishing pass for entry into the contest, before promising you access to the tunnel shortcut underneath the mountain, should you manage to be successful.

* You may get a fishing rod before starting the quest. One can be bought for 5 coins from either Gerrant in Port Sarim or from Harry in Catherby. If you start the quest without a fishing rod, you should probably walk to Catherby as Catherby is closer to the dwarves and to the Hemenster fishing contest than Port Sarim which is quite far away from the dwarves and Hemenster. You cannot get a fishing rod from Grandpa Jack. 2.
* You should get garlic before you start the quest. Garlic can be obtained from the building north of Ned and east of Morgan in Draynor Village. Go upstairs in the building and search the cupboard. If you want to get spare garlic, use the drop trick. 3.

- The Fishing Contest is a periodic event in Dark Cloud 2. It becomes unlocked towards the end of Chapter 3. It is located in Palm Brinks town square, and occurs every 10 in-game days (alternating with Finny Frenzy after it is unlocked). In each contest you can weigh up to 10 fish, and if you weigh 3 or more you get to Total Up. If you enter the contest with fish you've already weighed and select Total Up, your final score will be the combined weight of your best 3 fish. Just so you know, you can only enter a fish from the wild. You can't have a fish weighed that you've been feeding up yourself.
