Barry Bloom is a political operative, specializing in "dirty tricks" (such as, but not limited to, arranging for candidates to be in compromising positions, using dirt obtained from reporters, etc.) to allow candidates to gain advantages in tight races. He, along with reporter Hank Frazier, madam Angelica Payson and others infiltrated the campaign on gubernatorial hopeful Tom Pierce and managed to drive him from the race by arranging for Pierce to be on Angelica's "whore train", which happened to be raided by the Metro-Dade Vice division, then Frazier told him something that caused Pierce to drop out and disappear. Later, Bloom was seen leaving Angelica's home, but she was dead, casting suspicion of murder onto Bloom, who earlier was fired by Pierce's wife Annie from the campaign.
