He played junior hockey with the Notre Dame Hounds from 1939 to 1941. Following the 1941-42 season when he played for the New York Rovers, Kyle returned to Canada to play senior hockey. He played for the Saint John Beavers from 1943 to 1947 and for the Regina Capitals from 1947 to 1949. In 1949 Kyle signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers. He immediately won a regular job with the Rangers for two seasons. In 1951 Kyle was traded to the Boston Bruins with Pentti Lund for Paul Ronty. He played one season in Boston and led the NHL in penalty minutes with 127.
