He played one season in Boston and led the NHL in penalty minutes with 127. He played for the Calgary Stampeders from 1952 to 1956 when he retired. Kyle coached the Stampeders from 1957 to 1961. He then coached the St. Louis Braves in 1962-63, their only year in the Eastern Professional Hockey League and 1963–64, their first year in the Central Professional Hockey League. Following the close of his coaching career, Kyle spent some two decades on the St. Louis Blues radio broadcasting team. In the NHL, Kyle played in 203 games and scored 6 goals and 20 assists.
