The New Economic Mechanism (NEM) was a list of economic goals that was designed to strengthen Gusztavia's economy after it's revolution, making the nation both militarily and industrially self-sufficient. Zebestyen believed his country had to develop a national industry to secure communist rule, making his motivation in formulating the plan much clearer and more pressing later on. Launched by the Gusztavia regime and administered by the various planning departments, this economic Plan has employed tactics such as keeping detailed records on every item manufactured in the nation and shipping it to where it needed to go at the right time.

  • The New Economic Mechanism (NEM) was a list of economic goals that was designed to strengthen Gusztavia's economy after it's revolution, making the nation both militarily and industrially self-sufficient. Zebestyen had declared himself an Orthodox Marxist-Leninist who strongly admired Joseph Stalin, and modeled the policy on that basis. As such the term NEM is also largely used by many to describe the political ideology of Melik Zebestyen as leader of Gusztavia, and the term New Economic Mechanism is used specifically to refer to Zebestyen's rule. The central points of the NEM, as extolled by Zebestyen, are: * Major centralization of the state, and lessening of bureaucracy. * Collectivized agriculture industry in large farms for efficiency. * State ownership of industry, one-man factory command (‘managers’) to increase efficiency. * Capitol-based planned economy, with a steady 5-year plan to manage the economy. * Campaigns to help end illiteracy * Campaigns to eliminate common diseases, through education programmes and the training of doctors. * Campaigns to bring electricity to all of Gusztavia * Attempts to create heavy industry. * Socialism in one country. * Active aggravation of the class struggle.
