Sir Charles Henry Gibbs (5 May 1854 - 12 May 1924) was an insurance assessor and local politician in the Brixton area of Lambeth. Born in Taunton, Somerset, he moved to London in the 1870s. He became senior partner in the firm of Messrs. Price, Gibbs & Co. In 1919 he was elected to the London County Council as a representative of Lambeth Brixton. He served a single three-year term, standing down at the 1922 council election.

  • Sir Charles Henry Gibbs (5 May 1854 - 12 May 1924) was an insurance assessor and local politician in the Brixton area of Lambeth. Born in Taunton, Somerset, he moved to London in the 1870s. He became senior partner in the firm of Messrs. Price, Gibbs & Co. When the Metropolitan Borough of Lambeth was formed in 1900 Gibbs became leader of the Conservative-backed group on the council that eventually became the Municipal Reform Party in 1907. He was Mayor of Lambeth for 1907-08 and for four consecutive terms during the First World War: 1914-15, 1915–16, 1916–17 and 1917-18. In 1915 he was largely responsible for the raising of the 11th (Service) Battalion (Lambeth), The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). He was knighted in 1918. In 1919 he was elected to the London County Council as a representative of Lambeth Brixton. He served a single three-year term, standing down at the 1922 council election.
