  • The only son of reknown ballroom dancers & Sydney based entrepreneurs - Lance and Jean Platt, Kevin was given a start in life that most would dream of. A natural academic and scholar whose love affair with surfing saw him positioned as a forerunner in the youth/surfing revolution of the early 60's and 70's. Kevin had the privilege of calling some of Australia's greatest surfing legends 'friends' and travelled to Hawaii with Nat Young and Midget Farrelly in 1963. Before long he found himself spiraling in drug additions and substance abuse.

Kevin went on to create a name for himself as one of the Australia's best boardshapers, working for some of the great manufacturers of that time and playing a personal role in the development of new innovations in board designs. Out of the dedication and support for their son and his surfing friends - Jean and Lance developed 'Platts Surfwear' soon to became a sought after surf label on Sydney's Northern Beaches and abroad before labels like Quicksilver and Rip Curl monopolised that surf clothing market. The down side of the closely following 70's revolution was the upsurge in drug experimentation. Something that Kevin also embraced with a passion. Before long he found himself spiraling in drug additions and substance abuse. Despite all the raw talent and charism that was Kevin Platt -Drugs and alcohol slowly robbed him of life he seemed destined for, finally loosing his battle for sobriety with his unfortunate passing in 2000. Kevin has 6 children and many grandchildren that he was never able to met. All who cherish his legacy and grieve his life and passing as a great loss. With everything to live for and no real reason for his despair - Kevin became one of a true casualty in the Australian surfing revolution.
