Gordon Brown is a british politician who served as Leader of the Labour Party (2000 - 2006) He was elected MP for Dunfermline East at the 1982 general election. He entered government in 1985 as Trade and Industry minister, and entered cabinet two years later as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. In 1989 he was promoted to Trade and Industry Secretary. Following the resignation of Bryan Gould he became Chancellor fo the Exchequer. He contested the Labour Party leadership in 1994 and 1996, both times unsuccessfully. In 2000 he did win the leadership.
