In 2007, Watkins served as President/GM of the Bakersfield Blitz (AF2). From 2000-2002, Watkins served as Executive Director of the Spine in Sports Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of spinal cord injuries in adolescent athletes and the developer of the “See What You Hit” program, which distributed over 15,000 video programs to high school football teams throughout the US. Watkins began his career with the law firm of Graham & James (now Squire Sanders & Dempsey) in Los Angeles after receiving his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California, and B.A. in Japanese Studies from Bucknell University, where he spent his junior year studying at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan.
