Parkes played senior hockey in Toronto (Toronto Argonauts & Toronto Riversides) and in Kitchener (Kitchener Greenshirts). With the Greenshirts he scored 29 goals in 9 games in 1917-18 and 22 goals in 9 games in 1919-20. He turned pro in 1921-22 with the Vancouver Millionaires of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association and continued to play for them until 1924. That year he played one season for the Montreal Maroons and retired in 1925.
