In Series 8, after going up to the roof to set fireworks off to celebrate Grantley's kidney transplant, he noticed Kyle Stack was about to jump. Tom talked to Kyle about a new start at the school and eventually convinced him to come down. The roof was slippery and Tom grabbed Kyles hand, in doing so Kyle slipped forward and knocked Tom off the roof by accident. Tom fell off the roof and landed on his back, he then died surrounded by Staff and Pupils of Waterloo Road.
