Keeping The Blade is the first song on the 2005 album Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. The song contains two different melodies. The first is a reprise of the Second Stage Turbine Blade, the intro track from the album of the same name. The second melody is a frequent recurring piece, previously heard in the saga in The Hollow, The Broken, Everything Evil, God Send Conspirator, The Ring in Return and The Light & the Glass. This marked it's final appearance in the saga, until it features in The Hollow, the opening track of the album The Afterman: Ascension.

This marked it's final appearance in the saga, until it features in The Hollow, the opening track of the album The Afterman: Ascension. As with most interludes of this nature, it is believed by fans to represent the passing of time, or a change in scene. In this case, the passing of time since the end of the last chapter, In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3 and it's closing track 21:13. It has also been stated that this piece combines both opening tracks from the two previous albums to "signify the end", as this appears on the first volume of the final part of the story. The name of the song is also taken from the two previous albums ("In Keeping Secrets..." and "...Stage Turbine Blade").
