In 2371, a group of protesters including Pe'Nar Makull and Ny Terla tried to sabotage one of these conduits by using a particle injector but was stopped by Kathryn Janeway. Janeway was assured by Makull that nothing would go wrong in the polaric ion energy power plant unless she fired a weapon near a polaric conduit. While there, a subspace fracture opened and intersected with the conduit wall, creating a polaric explosion that destroyed all organic matter on the planet. When this time loop repeated itself, however, Janeway realized what was happening and sealed the fracture with her hand phaser. (VOY: "Time and Again")
