| - Véronique Sarrazin was elected to Parliament in April 3343. Prior to her election, she was a noted economist and reporter. In 3348, she contested the leadership of the party but won only 3%. Shortly after her defeat, James Sharpe appointed her to the cabinet as Minister of Food and Agriculture. After Sharpe's death, Sally Wingo became interim leader of the party and Prime Minister. Sarrazin was narrowly elected by the parliamentary party to become leader, however, Parliament rejected her bid to become Prime Minister. In July 3359, Sarrazin led the Liberals in the federal election. 14 Liberal MPs lost their seats in 3359, the largest of any party. Six months after the election, Sarrazin was able to form a government and become Prime Minister. After just over a year in power, Sarrazin saw the defeat of her government. While some speculated that she could stay on as Prime Minister in a caretaker government, she addressed Parliament and announced that she would respect the wishes of Rutanians and step down as Prime Minister. Her caucus was outraged at her decision but few saw credible challengers to her leadership. Finally, after two years in the political wilderness, Gerard Voisine challenged and defeated Sarrazin for the leadership.
