Before attemptiong deception in a room full of telepaths, remember that, even if they're not trying, they might pick up on it. The usage of natural drugs is quite common and utterly condoned, even those with no medically redeeming value or those consumed purely for recreation. More technological drugs and medical devices MAY be banned if the family's religious faith in Volir and Vollista causes them to abstain from their use in the everyday. Nonetheless, such items will likely be treated with wary skepticism, not overt enforcement of their banning. Licensing isn't quite as formal as on other worlds. On Vollista, ninety-nine point nine percent of all doctors are also religious priests or vested in some way. They combine ritual, religion, and herblore with true medical practices on par with medieval to twentieth century (depending on the procedure and technological preference of the doctor). They will generally not respect a doctor as a true healer, vested with Volir's blessing, unless they are reasonably competent at Herblore, show a proper respect for the sanctity of -all- life, and respect the ankward system of ritual and ceremony that has become common healing practice ON Vollista. Nonetheless, there are exceptions to this. Generally, someone sufficiently skilled who opens their mind to someone present and either truthfully, or bluffing well enough, declares their skill and confidence that they can help, will be allowed to practice medicine. Once having proven themselves once, the oral tradition of Vollista means a doctor will be known as paragon or failure, or whatever they are in between, wherever they go. Vollistans, having no codified liscencing standards, will allow anyone who they respect, to attempt treatment, provided one of their own doctors is not present or easily within contact range. They are not prejudiced racially, but prefer their own doctors because they will know the proper rituals in the event an operation or treatment turns sour, to insure the eternal rest of the departed, and the sanctified state of their body and mind. Thus, while anyone CAN practice without reprisal, one will earn no friends by treating a Vollistan who objects to technology, with a medical scanner and high-tech drugs.
