The Rugby Players were two slightly drunken individuals who good-naturedly pushed a little old lady called Fay towards the stage of the Gatsby Club when Ralph Lancaster appealed for a piano player to replace Ernest Bishop who had to cry off due to having injured his hand. She was supposed to play numbers for Rita Fairclough to sing to but her repertoire only extended to sing-along numbers such as She'll be coming round the mountain.... The Rugby Players were among the crowd who enthusiastically joined in the songs, although Rita was far from impressed.
