| - They can be placed to light up areas on floors, walls or ceilings and will look a little different depending to how they have been placed. In areas that have been lit, no Treasure Chests nor aggressive night creatures will spawn. These Torches can often be found in Obsidian Treasure Chests and Iron Treasure Chests underground, spawning on Siltstone, Stalactite, all rocks shaping the Lava layer and even on some kind of Nodes. Coal Torches can also be crafted, after the recipe will be unlocked by obtaining Coal for the first time (either found in Wood Treasure Chests spawning on the surface at night on any kind of solid natural blocks or extracted by using Extractors on Coal Nodes in Mountains, from caves or the Fossil layer underground). To craft 4 Coal Torches at once you'll need (as of R26 in December 2016):
* 1x Coal extracted from Coal Nodes in Mountains or on the Fossil layer underground by using any kind of Extractor, or found in Wood Treasure Chests on the surface
* 1 Wood Rod made of any kind of Wood or Log in a Processor Crafting/taking a Coal Torch for the first time will automatically unlock the recipes for the Wood Burning Lamp, which is even brighter than the Coal Torch and can also be found in Diamond Treasure Chests on the Corruption layer deep unterground, and the Fire Pit, a recipe that was previously a rare loot find before the R31 update. Coal Torches are significantly brighter than the Moss Torches you will start with. However it's much easier for beginners to craft Moss Torches from any kind of Wood and Moss from Ashenwood-trees, so you don't necessarily need to search for a lot of Coal early on in Creativerse, different from Minecraft. Better safe a bit of the rare Coal that you will obtain early in the game for the much needed Stone Mining Cells. As with all open fire, be careful when putting Coal Torches on or especially under (!) inflammable blocks or plants that can burn. Some blocks like Shredded Leaves or most of all liquid Tar can burn very easily even in col environments. Within hot environments like Savannahs or Lava layer, also tree-leaves of all kind, wood from trees, Tallgrass, Shrubs, thatched blocks, carpets and nearly every kind of crafted wood-blocks will burn - this fire is then able to spread to nearby inflammable blocks and in such ways can burn down a whole tree or even a whole grove of trees without a means to stop this (yet). You can put Coal Torches safely on display like on Wall Shelves, but there they will not light up the area around well.
