The Golden Rule (or Rule of the Gold) mostly applies to friends (because friendship is golden). The rule (or set of rules) states that anyone who has the balls to claim friendship shall passively accept anything you or relatives see fit. The rationalization of this is of course done through comparison with death...which of course is mostly considered the shorter of the two straws. The law finishes it up by demanding you not call retarded retarded and do it with a smile, mister! (but not a fake smile cause we're sick of that shit)...and it better be a real smile cause you have a habit of being crude...but don't take it personally and please don't smile for a period outlasting 4 seconds because thats just TOO nice. mkay? any problems with that...just member...you friend. k?

- Golden Rule is the chance of attracting wealth in one's life. It will make the user incredibly wealthy to the point where money trouble will be unknown, allowing them to live the life of a nabob.
- The Golden Rule is a general principle as experience shows that different people have different likes and dislikes. We should not force our tastes onto other people or treat them exactly as we would like to be treated. Despite the above we should try to empathize with other people and to consider what they would want/would want to avoid. This can do a great deal to help us work out what will benefit other people and what will harm other people.
- The Golden Rule basically states that in most cases we should treat other people the way we would like to be treated ourselves. This is an important principle in most religions of the world and also in Humanism. The Golden Rule is a general principle as experience shows that different people have different likes and dislikes. - Perhaps one of the most widely-cited and attributed pithy sayings in the whole of the Western canon, the Golden Rule has been stated and restated a hundred times. It's important for Discordians to be aware of, because like just about everything else that Everybody Knows, it's a memetic virus that you're going to have to fight or jam time and time again. The most common version of the Golden Rule is as follows: "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." Wikipedia has a pretty good page on the whole deal, too, under its more formal name: The Ethic of Reciprocity.

Moral principles generally vary enormously between groups, between different religions and between different sects of the same religion. Despite all this the Golden Rule is found in a great many different religions and different cultures because it has been shown to work.

"Isn't the Golden Rule basically a good thing?" "Ahh, no," I sagely reply, in my deep, masculine, authoritative voice. "Because said that way, it justifies basically anything you could ever want to do to someone."
