In this article I will examine the relationship between the processes of natural selection, artificial selection and differential reproduction. Whereas these processes are typically discussed in terms of the evolution of species, the context of this article will be populations. The concept of Malthusian selection was first published in The Australian Humanist (No. 76 Summer 2004) in an article by David Coutts entitled Common Ground - Creationism and Evolutionary Theory.

abstract
  • In this article I will examine the relationship between the processes of natural selection, artificial selection and differential reproduction. Whereas these processes are typically discussed in terms of the evolution of species, the context of this article will be populations. In particular I will propose the introduction of a new term for an existing process (only partially explained as stochastic process), which I call Malthusian selection. Together, these processes form the framework of the Exponentialist theory of evolution and populations, and allow for a form of group selection between populations. The concept of Malthusian selection was first published in The Australian Humanist (No. 76 Summer 2004) in an article by David Coutts entitled Common Ground - Creationism and Evolutionary Theory.
