Adaptation is the concept that living things change in order to best survive the world around them. For example, if the planet temperature permanently rises then a creature with a lot of fur would find it too hot, potentially reducing it's ability to hunt. Natural selection is a concept linked into this and it is the concept that only the animals best adapted to the current environment will go on to continue the species; the others will have died out, failing to adapt.

  • Adaptation is the concept that living things change in order to best survive the world around them. So the overly-furry creature in the last example would adapt by attempting to reduce the amount of fur on its body. This would be done over generations and in each generation the least furry of the furry-creatures would be the ones that would survive the hot climate and find food and then go on to breed, eventually all the fur would disappear as they adapt to the new hot climate. Without adaptation living creatures would die. Saul Lachance 14:55, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
