| - The Pineal Gland is a gland located inside the human brain. It has numerous biological functions (see pineal gland), but in the Middleverse, the pineal gland is connected to psychic and magical powers.
- The pineal gland was a small endocrine gland in the vertebrate brain. Phlox once had a patient suffering from the Kamaraazite flu, who sneezed so hard he nearly regurgitated his pineal gland. (ENT: "Sleeping Dogs") Nygean brains had a behavioral node that was analogous to the Human pineal gland. (VOY: "Repentance")
- Sit in a room that is appropriately designed to induce trancelike states; a white noise machine or a television tuned to C-SPAN both work equally well. Some people try sniffing glue on the eighthird day of the week, but this is not recommended for those who have an oxygen dependency. Chant a mantra that is based upon haiku, such as: Om nama rama bring me my yama mama pass it to the left. If you have trouble activating your pineal gland, then try the appendix which does almost as well.
- The pineal gland is a small gland, part of the endocrine system, which is found in the center of the brain, between the two hemispheres, near the thalamus. It produces melatonin, a derivative of serotonin, which regulates the wake/sleep pattern, including adjusting for the change of light levels during different seasons. It is very small (about 5–8 mm long in anyone over the age of two) and gets its name from its resemblance to a pine cone. It is one of the few glands in the skull that will show up on x-rays as it is often calcified.

It is one of the few glands in the skull that will show up on x-rays as it is often calcified. Because the cells of the pineal gland resemble those that sense light in the retina, many biologists believe the gland and the retina share a common ancestry. For this reason, and the gland's affinity for light (constant light or darkness impedes it's function) it is often called the "third eye". Unlike other parts of the brain, the gland is on the blood side of the blood-brain barrier and only the kidneys receive more blood flow. Because the gland calcifies in most species, it is often the only gland that shows up in fossils. The pineal gland is thought to have a role in the onset of puberty as pineal tumors and severe damage to the gland often cause precocious puberty and accelerated growth.

NOTE: the POEE Resource centre is not responsible for the occurrence of ruptured appendices when using this method, you could also try your glossolalia, but there are no guarantees there either and people will probably think you're nuts - remember if they think you're nuts the gig is up.
