The Dresh are a fiercely territorial civilization native to the Delta Quadrant. By the year 2371, their territory had spread into Kazon space, and they protected their borders with a large minefield. In early 2371, the USS Voyager unwittingly entered Dresh space and were immediately fired upon a by a group of Dresh warships. Commander Chakotay, temporarily in command of Voyager, attempted to negotiate with the Dresh but they would not listen to him. In order to save Voyager, Chakotay fooled the Dresh into believing that Voyager was equipped with a deadly weapon that could destroy them. The Dresh withdrew and Voyager continued on its way.
