The Rea'thu, or blood dragon, is a creature found on the moons of gas giants. Discovered by early Protoss scouts during the age of exploration, the creatures were thought to be distant relatives to the garunta. Being slightly susceptible to psionic energies, many young explorers tried to tame the Rea'thu as personal mounts. Though difficult at first, once bonded the pair are deadly as any fighter craft (Warcraft III: Hippogryph; James Cameron's Avatar: Mountain Banshee). This process was so earn such high respect, many individuals took taming a Rea'thu as part of their Quo'ryha. As it is native to gas giants, the creature evolved to withstand several different conditions that could kill smaller beasts. This high resilience comes in the form of a strong, but thin hide that emits a natural magnetic field that repulses or channels different types of energies. When exposed to lightning storms, the Rea'thu can convert and store the electricity for either movement or defense. Its eight wings, four large in front and four small on back, help channel electromagnetic energies to increase flying speeds ranging from mach 3-5. The four front wings come with large talons that penetrate most light to medium armors. On its own, a Rea'thu can take on most primative fighter craft and hold its own against a small swarm of Mutalisks. After the Brood War, some Protoss scientists are developing genetic engineering to prevent the few Rea'thu that remain in their care to be immune to infestation. This is to prevent the Zerg from gaining even more resistance to psionic attacks. Special abilities: * Pick up rider - picks up Protoss non-mechanized infantry turning them into a Stormcutter * Lightning field (passive) - unleashes a deadly field of electricity each time it attacks.
