The White Mountain Dwarves were scattered and disunified clans without a King on their own. They were mostly descendants of Broadbeams and Firebeards who had moved to the Ered Nimrais in the Third Age after the fall of Moria and the Ered Mithrin. They mostly settled in small and remote mining settlements in the western White Mountains, in Hairaverkien, Blackroot Vale or Drúwaith Iaur. Their best known settlings were Zigil Jabâl and Kechel in Morthond Vale. In the Fourth Age several Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain led by Gimli son of Glóin established a new colony within the caves of Aglarond.
