Herbert John Peer (b. November 12, 1910 - d. July 19, 1992) was a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who played in one National Hockey League game for the Detroit Red Wings during the 1939–40 NHL season. He played amateur hockey in and around Toronto from 1932 to 1936 and then went to Great Britain to play for the Harringay Racers from 1936 to 1938. He returned to Canada in 1938-39 to play for the senior Valleyfield Braves. Peer split 1945-46 between the Tulsa Oilers and the Valleyfield Braves. He then played two seasons for the senior Hamilton Tigers and retired in 1948.

In 1939-40 Peer split the season between the Omaha Knights and the senior Ottawa Senators and also played a game for the Detroit Red Wings. He played in the American Hockey Association for the next two seasons and then joined the Canadian Navy. Peer played for the Toronto HMCS York (the local Navy team) in 1942-43 and then went to war until 1945. Peer split 1945-46 between the Tulsa Oilers and the Valleyfield Braves. He then played two seasons for the senior Hamilton Tigers and retired in 1948. He is a member of the British Hockey Hall of Fame.
