  • Michael Flanagan graduated from the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The son of a Salvation Army minister, he pastored several Baptist pulpits in Texas before converting to Judaism in 1993. When the Southern Baptist Convention resolved to convert Jews to Christianity, Flanagan, who was drawing 200 worshippers on a Sunday, was preaching an alternative course that estranged many who “could not handle it.” When he heard Tovia Singer, a Jew who was involved in counter-missionary work, in the area, he bought the tape set produced by Singer's organization, Outreach Judaism. When he listened to the tape series his faith in Christianity waned and he resigned his ministry at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Palestine, Texas. As he prepared for conversion to Orthodox Judaism, his parents implored him to return to Christianity and his “senses”.
