At the age of 20 Sebastian Brown (1925–1985) joined the Grand National Party after returning from the Second World War. In 1980 at the age of 55 he was elected party leader in time to stand for Prime Minister. On 5 May 1980 Brown was elected Prime minister. It was during this time that there was a large Communist movement following the Communist takeover of Europe, which Brown set about opposing.
