  • Sam Ashton was elected to Parliament in April 3347. He served quietly on the back benches until he was named Party Chairman in 3366 by Gerard Voisine. He served in that capacity until 3368, following an unfavorable general election. However, Voisine asked Ashton to head the Liberal campaign in 3372. In 3372, Voisine was defeated in his bid for reelection but Ashton was able to help the Liberals make gains in Parliament. He also led the 3374 campaign and again saw the Liberals increase their presence in Parliament. After Voisine resigned as leader, Ashton ran against senior party officials and won. He was considered the most centrist of the contenders and many attribute that to his victory. In 3378, the Liberals lost seats in Parliament despite winning the Presidency. Ashton was challenged for the leadership and was defeated.
