- Bruce Maddox was a male Human in the 24th century, and one of Starfleet's foremost cybernetics experts. In 2341, he was among those asked to rule on the android Data's admittance to Starfleet Academy—he was the only person to object, on the grounds that Data was not a sentient being. Despite their earlier friction, Data held no ill will against Maddox, and the two would regularly correspond for several years to follow. (TNG episode: "Data's Day" TNG novel: Immortal Coil)
- Commander Bruce Maddox was a male Human 24th century Starfleet cyberneticist. He worked in the Cybernetics Division of the Daystrom Institute and, in 2365, was the Associate Chair of Robotics. In 2341, he was consulted in Starfleet Academy admissions. He was the only person to object to Data's entry on the grounds that, as an android, Data did not qualify as a sentient being. When Data's program was infiltrated after an Iconian software transmission his systems went down. Geordi La Forge mentioned that an expert such as Maddox, or somebody similar could help. (TNG: "Contagion" )

As the Associate Chair of Robotics at the Daystrom Institute, Maddox was the only person on a review board to object to the android Data's application to Starfleet Academy in 2341, believing that Data was not a sentient being. By 2374, Maddox held the rank of captain, and had developed a holotronic android with Emil Vaslovik and Reginald Barclay. (TNG novel: Immortal Coil)
