In January 2016, the US channel announced that it would rebrand as NickFamily Extreme sometime in 2016. It is unknown whether Corus is applying for a NickFamily Extreme license to replace NickFamily Retro's current license; NickFamily Retro rebranded as NickFamily Extreme (albeit still operating under the NickFamily Retro license) ahead of the American channel on January 20, 2016. On January 15th, 2017, the channel was shut down due to low ratings, and its license was returned to the CRTC.
