Operation Sonnnenblume was the German name for the deployment of their troops into North Africa in early 1941. One of the main objectives of Sonnenblume was to reinforce the all but destroyed Italian forces that had been defeated in North Africa by the Allies, and to push across Africa, in order to gain control of the Suez Canal.
