Synopsis
  • Nathaniel receives a message from the President, who express his concerns over Nathaniel's resignation from the military. He states that despite Nathaniel's leaving, he is still open to re-recruitment under their mutual liaison General Eiling and urging him to make an exception to his resignation by continuing his surveillance of the Justice League. Since Christmas Eve, Nathaniel has been in a relationship with his CIA liaison Eve Eden , who was temporarily loaned to General Eiling by Amanda Waller. Nathaniel also applied a job interview at Lockleed Aircraft in California; in which Eve is not happy to learn and believed that Nathaniel is avoiding her. This lead to a breakup . Nathaniel soon arrived in California and begin his application by testing in a flight simulator. Unknown to him, his new boss Martin Lockleed was given orders by his associate Eiling to prevent Nathaniel from being hire under the threat of denying his company government contracts. The company plant then suddenly underwent a blackout. Lockleed learns that there is a security breach at the R&D building and knows that they are after the "Steathray". Nathaniel discreetly change into Captain Atom and heads to the R&D building. Meanwhile, the infiltrators have failed to find the Steathray and are subdue by Nightshade. Captain Atom is surprise to see Nightshade, in which she states that she is still observing Nathaniel, and a squabble ensues between them until they notice the infiltrators are suddenly dead. Nighshade discover that there were fast-acting poison inside the infiltrators' molars and have killed themselves to avoid being questioning. The two are then met by Lockleed who appreciated the heroes' help. Lockleed then request Captain Atom and Nightshade to meet him at midnight this evening in Hangar 7 to explain what the spies were after. A surviving spy from the botched infiltration reports of his failure to his master, "The Faceless One". The masked man is displeased by this development, especially with superheroes involved, and decide to deal with Lockleed personally. He then teleport to Lockleed Aircraft. Captain Atom and Nightshade meet up with Lockleed. As he is about to explain, Lockleed gets a call from his secretary and is displeased that Eiling is trying to call him. Lockleed then speaks out loud that Eiling will be ensure that "Cameron Scott" won't be working at his company much to Nathaniel's displeasure. Lockleed forgive the interruptions and finally explain what the spies were after: the Stealthray, a portable mass teleportation device that Lockleed was developing to replace aircraft transportation. Lockleed suspected that the principle perpetrator is Alec Rois, a brilliant physicist and one of the key developers of the Stealthray, who was fired from Lockleed after he joined a fanatical cult and for claiming that the Stealthray was his personal creation. Lockleed also kept the Stealthray inside his person. Soon as Lockleed said this, the Faceless One immediately make his attack. His costume is able to reflect Captain Atom's energy blasts and allowing him to fly. He takes Lockleed hostage and demands that he hands over the Stealthray under threat of death. Lockleed reluctantly gives him the prototype, but Rois still intends on killing his former employer by trying to impale him in the needle nose of a stationary jet. Captain Atom, however, melts the jet's nose. Nightshade entraps Rois in her shadow construct and allowing Captain Atom to rescue Lockleed. Rois attempt to teleport away with the Stealthray, but Captain Atom destroys the prototype much to Lockleed's dismay. The next morning, Lockleed talks to Nathaniel that his company will be notify for an opening while ignorant of Nathaniel's knowledge of Eiling's plans. Nathaniel meets up with Eve, who tells him that Amanda Waller has given a new assignment. Meaning that they won't see each other soon.
