It would prove to be his career-best finish. Baldwin's busiest year would come during the 1983 season by making five starts, though it would turn out to be a rough year for Baldwin. Three engine issues severely hurt Baldwin's efforts, finishing 27th at Atlanta, 36th at Michigan, and 42nd at Talladega. But if Baldwin was around for the finish, he again ran well. He finished 20th in his first ever Daytona 500 and also tagged on a 13th place run at Rockingham. Baldwin did not return to the sport until the 1985 season, but more struggles awaited the driver. Engine issues in his first start at Michigan left Baldwin in 28th. He fared little better at Atlanta, when he fell a number of laps down and finished 23rd. Baldwin made his final two starts during the 1986. Unfortunately, it was again a struggle for the driver, as his career ended on a low note. He started the year by finishing a meager 24th at North Wilkesboro. He fared little better in his ultimate start, showing 34th at Dover.
