In a burst of patriotic fever, the senior teams in Manitoba were named after World War I battles in 1917-18. The Winnipeg Ypres won the Winnipeg League and the Manitoba championship. They then defeated the Saskatoon Quakers for the right to challenge for the Allan Cup. They lost the 1917-18 Allan Cup challenge to the Kitchener Greenshirts.
