One of the pioneers in the European settlement of Wellington, New Zealand, was John Plimmer. He became knowm as "the father of Wellington". His name remains in Plimmer House and Plimmer's Steps, both in the CBD. At the Lambton Quay end of "his" steps is a bronze statue of him and his dog. "His" house is 100 m up from the top of the steps.
