The Mexican general election of 1999 was held on April 5, 1999 as called by Emperor of Mexico Eduardo II. The election was to elect Members of Congress (Miembros del Congreso, MCs) to the Congress of Mexico. The incumbent Party of the Revolution was defeated by the Conservative Party, marking the end of the the PR's 41-years in control of the Congress, the longest such single-party control in a democratic society. The election brought about the replacement of Francisco Labastida as Prime Minister by Vicente Fox, who would remain Prime Minister for the ensuing nine years, the second-longest such term in Mexican history.
