| - Doug Wildey (May 2, 1922 - October 5, 1994) was a comic book artist and cartoonist most famous for his co-creation of the acclaimed animated television series, Jonny Quest for Hanna-Barbera Productions (1964). Wildey worked on comic book series including Jonah Hex, Sgt. Rock and Tarzan (taking over the latter book from Russ Manning), and created his own western comic book character, Rio. He got his start in television animation working with Alex Toth at Cambria Studios on their 1962 series Space Angel. In addition to Jonny Quest, he also co-created the Herculoids and Jana of the Jungle television properties. He created a comic strip, Ambler, that lasted about a year or 18 months in the late '60s. He got his start in television animation working with Alex Toth at Cambria Studios on their 1962 series Space Angel. In addition to Jonny Quest, he also co-created the Herculoids and Jana of the Jungle television properties. He created a comic strip, Ambler, that lasted about a year or 18 months in the late '60s. Wildey was later the director and associate producer of the cartoon series Return to the Planet of the Apes. The cartoon was drawn by DePatie-Freleng (best known for the Pink Panther cartoon) in association with 20th Century Fox, and began airing in September 1975 on NBC. His other television credits included work on Marvel Super Heroes (1966), The Godzilla Power Hour (1978), Mister T (1983) and Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos (1986) - the latter with co-creative consultant Jack Kirby, and produced by Ruby-Spears Productions (Joe Ruby and Ken Spears had been story editors on the 1974 Planet of the Apes TV series). He was able to return to his most prominent creation in the 1980s with a Jonny Quest comic series, published by Comico.
