Orion Pax was always anxious of the inequality amongst Cybertronians and thus, after gaining inspiration from an outspoken gladiator named Megatron's call for the reunification of Cybertron's society, took a stand to restructure the planet. Once Pax and Megatron discovered they did not have as much in common as they once believed, the lowly data clerk was promoted by the High Council to be the next Prime. With the claiming of the Matrix of Leadership, Orion Pax became Optimus Prime, and rose to lead his people. It was that leadership which turned the tide of the Great War.

Once Cybertron ran dry of energon, Optimus ordered the search for energon across the stars & a new home. This subsequently caused the Decepticons to start their own search. The Autobots that followed Optimus were 1st lieutenant & saboteur Jazz, 2nd lieutenant & weapons specialist Ironhide, master strategist Prowl, mechanical engineer & old friend Wheeljack, field medic Ratchet, and expert recon officer Bumblebee. It was this action that caused the Great War to spread to Earth.
