The split jump allows a person to position themselves in a high location in a narrow area, decreasing their chance of being detected by patrols. This can be very effective in avoiding detection from any personnel that patrol the area, especially narrow areas that are the perfect distance for performing the split jump. If the player releases the position on an enemy's head, the player may be able to knock out anyone standing beneath them.

This can be very effective in avoiding detection from any personnel that patrol the area, especially narrow areas that are the perfect distance for performing the split jump. If the player releases the position on an enemy's head, the player may be able to knock out anyone standing beneath them. In Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, the split jump was activated by pressing the jump button (next to a vertical surface), pressing the jump button again to jump off the wall, and pressing the jump button again at the peak of the jump. The split jump returned in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, but only required the player to look at the wall and hold the jump button. Once done, a short animation shows the player executing the split jump automatically.
